Amazigh Groups in Morocco Shift Strategy, Prepare for 2021 Elections

The era of boycotting elections is over. Amazigh movements are considering a Front for Political Action, with a view to participating in the legislative, local and regional elections in 2021.

"Today, the time of boycotting elections is over," declared the president of the World Amazigh Assembly (AMA), Rachid Raha. Convinced of this, he called on all Amazigh activists to register on the electoral lists. He is convinced that political participation and voting are the only means that will allow the Amazighs to counter the ambitions of the "merchants of religion and other election mafias".

In the perspective of the 2021 legislative, local and regional elections, the associations and activists defending the Amazigh cause have created the Front for Amazigh Political Action, reports Assabah. They have already launched political consultations with parties, in order to study the possibility of having some Amazigh leaders participate in the elections. They will have to be registered on the candidate lists.

On Monday, March 3, the Front, composed of the jurist Ahmed Arahamouch, Omar Isra, Mustapha Oumouch and Soufiane Aizouzen, had talks with the Secretary General of the PPS. For his part, Nabil Benabdellah gave his approval to the Front for Amazigh Political Action, before recalling the historical positions of the PPS and its interest in the Amazigh issue.

A second meeting will take place in the next few days. It will focus on the operational modalities and possible ways to allow the Amazigh movement to have a political presence on the national political scene.
