Alleged ’Luxury Car Beggar’ Trial in Morocco Delayed Again, Set for March 25

The trial of the fake beggar who recently appeared in a video on board a luxury car in the capital of Souss has once again been postponed. This adjournment, which is the third, is scheduled for March 25.
Two reasons explain this decision by the court of first instance in the city of Agadir. First, the remote hearing during these pandemic times could not be held due to a technical breakdown. And then, this postponement will allow the summoning of the declarants.
The accused, who is being prosecuted in custody, is accused of having engaged in begging to cope with her financial difficulties, using lies. Sometimes hidden under a full veil or a djellaba, she would move her vehicle far from her home, leaving her relatives to believe that she was going to work.
The "beggar", who owns a 4X4, would be a native of the city of Salé in 1979, residing in a neighborhood north of Agadir where she studied up to secondary school.
Emigrated to Italy as part of family reunification, and mother of three children, she became a widow following the death of her husband in a traffic accident. To cope with her family expenses, she embarked on trade and business, before being hit hard by the health crisis and the closure of borders.
