Algerian Suspect Arrested in Morocco for International Luxury Car Theft Ring

The elements of the gendarmerie of Ksar Sghir arrested an individual suspected of being involved in an international luxury car trafficking network. The suspect, of Algerian nationality, was brought before the prosecutor of the King near the court of first instance of Tangier, who ordered his placement in pre-trial detention.
The investigation revealed that the individual belonged to an organized criminal network that was stealing luxury cars in Europe to transport them to Morocco. The modus operandi of this network consisted in falsifying the papers of the stolen vehicles in order to make them pass for legally imported vehicles. Once introduced into Moroccan territory, the vehicles were resold on the black market, often in spare parts.
The arrest of the suspect in Ksar Sghir follows the issuance of an international arrest warrant by Interpol for the theft of a vehicle in France. Thanks to the on-board geolocation system, the stolen vehicle was located between Tanger Med and the city of Tangier, allowing the arrest of the suspect.
During his arrest, the gendarmes seized four stolen luxury vehicles, mobile phones, cash, identity documents and French residence permits.
The suspect was taken into custody and interrogated. He admitted the facts he is accused of and revealed the identity of his accomplices, Algerians and Moroccans, who are the subject of arrest warrants.
