Algerian Minister Blames Neighboring Country for Drought at World Water Forum

On the sidelines of his participation in the work of the 10th World Water Forum, in the city of Bali in Indonesia, Taha Derbal, the Algerian Minister of Hydraulics, accused Morocco without naming it of being responsible for the drought affecting Algeria.
More new accusations against Morocco. "One of the neighboring countries, through its irresponsible behavior, has disrupted the ecological balance, which has seriously affected the fauna and flora along the western borders of the country," Taha Derbal explained on Monday in a statement to the press on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the 10th World Water Forum in the city of Bali, Indonesia, thus alluding to Morocco. According to him, the kingdom "has intentionally and systematically dried up certain dams and areas." Based on this observation, the Algerian minister called for a strong confrontation against this type of practice.
Taking the opportunity, Taha Derbal also highlighted the actions taken by his country in an era where "the appearance of the phenomenon of global warming, the issue of water is increasingly raised on the international scene." He assured that Algeria has mobilized enormous resources to cope with water scarcity and ensure water supply for all its citizens, by adopting a multi-pronged plan, including turning to unconventional water resources. Among the actions taken are the desalination of seawater and the reuse of treated wastewater for agricultural purposes, a sector that alone consumes more than 70% of the water collected annually, Derbal further explained.
