Algerian Man Arrested at Morocco-Spain Border with Firearm and Cash

Moroccan customs officers and police agents arrested an Algerian national at the Bab Sebta border crossing.
The man, who legally resides in France and whose nationality is unknown, had a firearm, ammunition and 30,000 euros in cash on him. In his Renault Clio car, the customs officers also found a bulletproof vest, cartridges and a suspicious powder.
The suspect was transferred to the Fnideq police station for questioning before being brought before the competent prosecutor’s office for a thorough investigation before being brought to justice.
In Morocco, the possession of weapons is severely punished by law. The Penal Code, in its article 303 as amended, punishes the illegal possession of weapons with imprisonment of one month to one year, and a fine of 1,200 to 5,000 dirhams.
