Algeria Warns of 'Unprecedented' Media Attacks Threatening National Security

Algeria claims to be the target of fierce media campaigns aimed at destabilizing it due to strong tensions with France and its positions on the conflict in the Sahara and the war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

"Algeria is facing unprecedented fierce media attacks," warns the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) in a message addressed to Algerians on Tuesday. According to it, the "only weapon" against this campaign is "awareness and verification of the facts," to avoid the "misfortunes" and "consequences" of what the enemy is seeking. This "phenomenon threatens our unity, our security and our stability," it stresses.

The MDN calls on all Algerians to "verify the sources of information shared on social networks, before republishing them," not to spread fake news, especially those that "target the unity, stability and security of the country" in order to "thwart attempts to destabilize Algeria."

These hostile media campaigns stem from the strong tensions with France on several issues such as memory, the fight against illegal immigration or the Boualem Sansal affair, but also from Algeria’s positions on the conflict in Western Sahara and the war in the Gaza Strip.
