Algeria Signals Diplomatic Thaw with Morocco, Foreign Minister Calls for Mutual Respect

After recent diplomatic tensions between Algeria and Morocco, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, is playing the card of appeasement.
"You will not hear from Algeria or an Algerian official inappropriate or inappropriate remarks against Morocco. [...] We are not going to get into conflicts of words, insults and retorts. You will not hear that from us," the Algerian minister said in an intervention on Russia Today.
He says he wishes the best for his western neighbor. "No harm will come from Algeria. We only ask for respect," he assured. However, the head of Algerian diplomacy stressed that "this will not change Algeria’s international positions, known and accepted by the world, including Morocco." He thus refers to the Sahara issue. For Mr. Boukadoum, "the future of the Great Arab Maghreb is in its unity".
These statements by the head of Algerian diplomacy follow the remarks made by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on July 4. In an interview with France 24, he had ruled out a new military escalation between Algeria and Morocco. "Wisdom has always prevailed between the two countries," he had said. However, he had admitted that "so far, the escalation has been verbal, but we note that our Moroccan brothers are moving to another form".
