Algeria Releases 40 Moroccan Migrants, Escorts Them to Border

End of detention in Algeria for 40 Moroccans this Wednesday. Released after being arrested for irregular migration, they were taken to the border with Morocco, according to information from the AMSV association.
The transfer was carried out via the Maghnia posts ("Akid Lotfi", "Zouj Bghal"), specifies the AMSV, which adds that this group is part of about a hundred cases that the association had reported to international bodies, including the Council of Europe.
The AMSV also states that 480 Moroccans would remain detained in Algeria and that six bodies of deceased persons would be in the morgue there. This border opening for the transfer is an exceptional measure, with a previous one having taken place on April 17th.
According to the association, the majority profile of the detainees is that of manual workers (plaster, zellige). Convictions for illegal immigration would sometimes be accompanied by accusations of human trafficking or money laundering.
Similar releases had already taken place in November 2024 (groups of 16 and 27 people, migrants and construction workers), transferred near Oujda. The AMSV had then reported sentences of more than three and a half years, sometimes followed by a year of administrative detention.
