Algeria Recalls Diplomats from Key Nations Amid Western Sahara Dispute

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has thanked ambassadors and consuls posted in countries with proximity to Morocco. Would this decision be linked to a lack of diplomatic breakthrough on their part regarding the Sahara issue, which remains the point of friction between Algiers and Rabat?
According to the latest Algerian Official Bulletin, it involves about fifteen ambassadors and consuls posted abroad. Among them are Mohammed Haneche posted in Brussels, Belgium, Mohamed Lamine Laabas, posted in Lima, Peru, Ali Mokrani, in Budapest, Hungary, Naceur Boucherit in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Mohamed Abdelaziz Bouguetaïa in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Saïd Moussi is no longer Algeria’s ambassador to Madrid (appointed to Paris) since July 21, 2022. As for Abdelmadjid Naamoune, he no longer holds the position of ambassador to Lisbon, Portugal, since November 8, 2022.
Everything suggests that these dismissals are related to the Sahara issue, as Morocco has seen diplomatic advances in recent months. Isolated, Algiers is struggling to achieve diplomatic feats, but it almost daily celebrates them on the official news agency (APS).
