Algeria-Morocco: The file of expropriated property considered "closed" by Algiers

Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Morocco’s expropriation of Algerian state property in Rabat is a "closed file".

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch recently issued a decree expropriating Algerian state-owned real estate for public utility, in accordance with Law No. 81-7 of April 16, 1982. This involves a 619 m2 plot of land called "Kabalia", registered under title deed R/9320, another property called "Zanzi", with an area of 630 m2, registered under title deed R/6375 and consisting of a two-story residence with offices on the ground floor, as well as a villa called "Villa du Soleil levant" with an area of 491 m2 registered in the land registry under number R/300.

In a statement, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced a "project to confiscate the premises of the Algerian state embassy in Morocco", "an unqualifiable violation". Reacting in turn, Rabat referred to official Algerian documents attesting to discussions between Morocco and Algeria regarding the expropriation of Algerian state property in Rabat. On Tuesday, the Algerian Foreign Minister returned to this matter. He assured that the file is "closed", reports TSA Algérie. "We have reacted and they have made a decision that we consider appropriate. The file is closed," he said.

Ahmed Attaf also spoke about the Sahara issue, which his country, the protector of the Polisario, is not about to abandon. "That’s the bitter truth for Morocco. Whatever Morocco does on the ground, the file remains before the Committee of 24 in charge of decolonization," he recalled. And he added: "There is also the MINURSO in Western Sahara, whose letter ’R’ means referendum".
