Algeria Honors Late Moroccan PM Youssoufi, Champion of Maghreb Unity

Algeria, through its president, Abdelmajid Tebboune, and the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS), paid tribute to the former Moroccan Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, who died on May 29 after a long illness.

In a letter sent to the family of the late Abderrahmane Youssoufi, reported by TSA, Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune expressed his "deep sadness" and hailed a "long political life" dedicated to the defense of "the working class, the values of freedom and Justice".

The Head of State also recalled the late Prime Minister’s support for the Algerian war of liberation. Without forgetting to mention the Maghreb construction. His wish, he said, is that the region’s youth continue the "tireless efforts to realize this dream for which Abderrahmane Youssoufi fought alongside an elite of Men of the Arab Maghreb".

Through a message of condolences signed by the first secretary of the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS), Hakim Belahcel, the party also paid tribute to the late Abderrahmane Youssoufi. For this Algerian opposition party, the death of the former Moroccan Prime Minister is a "loss, not only for his honorable family, for his country, but also for the entire Maghreb which has just lost one of its historical leaders and one of its most committed activists".

The party recalls that Abderrahmane Youssoufi was the lawyer of the founder of the FFS, Hocine Ait Ahmed. He had participated in the defense of the latter when the Algerian justice system had brought him to trial in 1965.
