Algeria Considers Renewing Gas Pipeline Contract with Morocco, President Says

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has stated that Algeria has not yet formally decided on whether or not to renew the contract for the gas pipeline linking Spain and passing through Morocco.

Will Algeria do without Morocco in the Gas Pipeline contract after October 31? The decision was thought to have already been made with the recent statements of the Algerian Minister of Energy, who indicated that his country no longer wants to cooperate with Morocco.

However, the latest statement by President Tebboune leaves doubt about the future of this contract between the two neighbors, no doubt due to the lack of other alternatives.

In an interview with local media, the Algerian President stated that "the contract runs until October 31 and that by then, we’ll see."

In addition, the President stated that all gas deliveries to Spain will now be made via the Medgaz submarine pipeline, which was already used to transport the majority of exports to Europe.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Rabat has always extended a hand for the resumption of relations, reaffirming its desire to see the gas contract with Algeria extended. However, well-informed sources have stated that the decision not to renew will not affect the kingdom, which has been anticipating the issue for months.
