Airbnb Horror: Franco-Moroccan Villa Owner Jailed for Hidden Cameras and Illicit Activities in Marrakech

The court of first instance in Marrakech sentenced on Monday to five years in prison and a fine of 500,000 dirhams the Franco-Moroccan who installed hidden cameras in his luxury Airbnb villa that he rented to tourists.
The camera was discovered by an American tourist who came to enjoy her vacation in the ochre city with her partner and friends. The latter noticed a photo frame in front of the shower one day, which aroused her curiosity. Upon examining the object, she discovers an SD card and a lens, hidden inside.
Other photo frames were placed in the bathrooms, violating the privacy of the tenants. The owner of the Airbnb villa, a Moroccan residing abroad, has imposed strict rules in order to spy on his tenants: a housekeeper comes every day from 9am to 5pm, a security guard lives in the basement, among other things.
The MRE was also convicted of trafficking in alcoholic beverages and making premises available for prostitution and debauchery. Seven people (six foreigners and one Moroccan) have joined the civil party in this case. The American vacationer recounted her misadventure in the ochre city, in a video on TikTok that went viral.
The MRE’s villa has been placed under seal and its definitive closure has been ordered. The pornographic material and the seized alcohol stocks have been destroyed. The public prosecutor’s office appealed the decision of the court of first instance, considering the facts "of extreme gravity". The Franco-Moroccan could see his sentence increased.
