Air Arabia Reports $37 Million Loss as Passenger Traffic Plummets 57%

Like other airlines, Air Arabia has been heavily impacted by the coronavirus crisis. In total, the Moroccan airline lost 169 million Emirati dirhams (nearly 37 million euros) in the first half of 2020.
Regarding passenger traffic, the company indicates that it transported 2.48 million passengers from the group’s 4 hubs, a decrease of 57%. According to the company, the results for the first half of 2020 were largely affected by the second quarter, which saw the most severe impact of Covid-19 on the operation of airlines.
According to L’Économiste, this loss is justified by the sharp drop in activity during the 2nd quarter, marked by the multiple cancellations of scheduled flights. As a result, the group’s turnover stood at 1.02 billion Emirati dirhams, a 53% drop compared to 2.17 billion recorded a year earlier.
As for the regular flight schedule, it was affected by airport closures and the suspension of flights. Repatriation, charter and freight flights were partly the major operations carried out during the 2nd quarter.
