Air Arabia Cuts Jobs Amid COVID-19 Crisis; Moroccan Subsidiary’s Fate Uncertain

Severely affected by covid-19, Air Arabia based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, recently announced the elimination of several hundred jobs. In Morocco, for now, nothing is leaking out.
The company employs about 2,000 people. In May, it had laid off 57 employees. This time, Air Arabia did not specify the number of employees affected by the new job cuts.
These latest job cuts were a "last resort" after the airline had taken a series of measures in recent months to protect jobs, the group’s spokesman said.
Air Arabia recorded a 45% drop in revenue in the first quarter of the year due to the health crisis related to the coronavirus. The company’s subsidiaries in Morocco and Egypt could also be affected by this crisis. Job cuts could be announced in these two countries.
