After Ceuta, Two European Parties Want the 2030 World Cup Without Morocco

In Spain, Sumar has submitted a non-binding proposal to Congress asking the government to review the joint organization. The party is calling for greater transparency regarding the agreements concluded, the public funds committed and the guarantees offered concerning human rights.

LIVRE Calls on Portugal to Break with Morocco

In Portugal, the environmentalist party LIVRE is going further. It is calling on the government and the Portuguese Football Federation to refuse to organize the World Cup alongside Morocco.

The request was addressed to Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and the president of the Federation, Pedro Proença. The party cites the Ceuta crisis, human rights and security concerns surrounding the competition.

“Courageous action is needed: Portugal cannot participate in jointly organizing the 2030 World Cup with Morocco,” said its spokesperson Jorge Pinto, quoted by Cadena SER.

LIVRE also accuses Rabat of having used migrants, including minors, as a means of pressure on Spain.
