AFCON 2024 Draw: Morocco’s Coach Reacts to Group Stage Opponents

The complete draw for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) has prompted comments from the coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui.
Since Thursday, each of the teams participating in AFCON 2023, which will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire in six stadiums and five cities: Abidjan (Ebimpé and Abidjan-Plateau), Bouaké, Korhogo, San-Pédro and Yamoussoukro, knows its opponent. Morocco, semi-finalist of the 2022 World Cup, will face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which it had eliminated in the World Cup qualifiers, and will also face Zambia and Tanzania. Morocco’s group is "balanced and will not be simple," says Walid Regragui after the draw.
"We were aware that this edition of the AFCON would be the most competitive. No team is approachable and no group is easy. We are actually facing two teams that are part of our 2026 World Cup qualifying group, namely Zambia and Tanzania. We are continuing the preparations. The most important thing is that we are entering the competition right away, since we know who we are facing. When you take part in such a competition, you have to be ready for anything," commented the coach of the Atlas Lions.
And he added: "We will do what we have to do to go far. Everyone dreams of winning it, us included. We will approach this competition with respect. We know the African continent and especially football. We have a good group with players who want to win a title with the national team. But I repeat, it won’t be easy [...]. We know that this competition is played on details and on the state of mind."
