Adil Rami Clarifies Misinterpreted Instagram Photo Amid Turkish Salute Controversy

The profile picture of the Franco-Moroccan international, Adil Rami, performing the same controversial military salute of Turkish footballers has nothing political. On his Instagram account, the Fenerbahçe player has shown that his photo was just a bad coincidence and existed long before this Turkish offensive.

The former Olympique de Marseille player openly attacked the journalists, accused of not having verified their information. This one gave a misleading impression and resembled trait for trait the controversial salute of the Turkish footballers, in support of the soldiers engaged in the military operation in northern Syria.

The defender’s profile picture on Instagram depicts him with his right hand raised to his forehead and a smile on his lips, under the jersey of the Istanbul club he joined at the end of August after being fired by Olympique de Marseille.

To put an end to this controversy, the defender posted a video in which he justified his photo. According to him, this photo has existed for "a little over a month", long before the launch of the Turkish operation.

To give more weight to his statement, Adil Rami accompanied it with several screenshots, which show that the controversial photo was posted well before the Turkish landing.

It should be noted that this gesture, performed several times by the Turkish footballers, after their goals or at the end of their matches against Albania on Friday and France on Monday, in Euro 2020 qualifiers, led to the opening of a judicial investigation by UEFA which associated it with a potential "political provocation".
