Acclaimed Moroccan Writer Mohcine Akhrif Dies in Tragic Accident at Tetouan Book Fair

A terrible loss for Morocco with the death yesterday of the young writer Mohcine Akhrif, during a meeting at the book fair taking place in Tetouan.
Akhrif would have died from electrocution while he was in a stand at the book fair, confirms a police source quoted by the website Médias24. "This electrocution is due to the heavy rains the city has been experiencing in recent days," explains a police commissioner in Tetouan.
The same source indicates that the carpets covering the floor had been soaked by the rain and it is possible that the microphone cable was touched, electrocuting the Arabic-language poet and president of the Alliance of Writers of the North of Morocco at the same time.
Arriving very quickly on the scene, the emergency services could only note the writer’s death.
An investigation has of course been opened by the police to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
