Acclaimed Moroccan Filmmaker Mohamed Ismaïl Dies at 70

The Moroccan film world is in mourning. Director and screenwriter Mohamed Ismaïl died on Saturday evening in Casablanca at the age of 70, after a long illness.
The late Mohamed Ismaïl was well known in the film industry for having produced and directed many films, series, plays and variety shows since he joined Moroccan television in 1974. Among the TV movies directed by the deceased, there are "Pourquoi pas", produced in 2005 and "Allal al Kalda" in 2003, as well as "Awlad Lablad", produced in 2009, "Adieu mères" in 2007 and "Aouchtam" produced in 1996, reports the MAP.
His reputation goes beyond the Moroccan borders, as some of these works have been awarded prizes in several international festivals. He received the Best Screenplay Award at the Brussels Independent Film Festival for his film "Ici et là", the Golden Star for Best TV Movie for "Allal al Kalda" and the Directing Award and Grand Prix of the International Arab Television Festival in Cairo.
The late Mohaled Ismail will be buried this Sunday in Martil, according to members of his family.
