World Bank Approves $300 Million Loan to Boost Moroccan Municipal Development

This is good news for Moroccan municipalities. The World Bank’s Board of Directors has just approved a $300 million loan to improve the performance of municipalities in Morocco.
According to the World Bank, "The objective of this program is a boost to the more general efforts undertaken by the Kingdom to improve urban services and transform agglomerations into engines of growth and job creation".
This program spans a five-year period from 2019 to 2024. It concerns about a hundred municipalities that house 80% of the urban population and half of the population of Morocco.
It is essentially aimed at territorial development. The Director of Operations for the Maghreb at the World Bank, Jesko Henschel, explains that this program will try to correct "the major shortcomings in terms of the efficiency of municipalities in order to promote a transparent, efficient and accountable urban management system capable of driving sustainable local development. Moroccan municipalities need it.
