Woman Faces Trial for Attempted Murder of Mother After Nightmare

Placed in pre-trial detention on August 14 last for attempted murder on her mother the day before, Dalila N., a 32-year-old woman, was presented on Thursday before the Brussels Criminal Court.
Dalila acted on August 13 last at the family home in Laeken, Belgium, after a nightmare in which she would have seen herself suffocating her mother. This is how, after waking up, the thirtysomething joined her mother who was sleeping in her bed and tried to suffocate her with a pillow. Her little sister, who was sharing the bed with their mother, managed to avoid the worst. Determined to go through with her sinister project, Dalila returns to the kitchen and grabs a butter knife. But her sister manages to disarm her, reports La Dernière Heure.
The suspect had left the premises before the arrival of the police patrol. The police arrested her on her return to the family home. According to the first elements of the investigation, Dalila N. would suffer from mental disorders and would be under treatment after having stayed several times in a psychiatric center for problems of schizophrenia and bipolarity. On August 13, she would not have taken her medication.
After her interrogation at the police station, the young woman was presented to the investigating judge who ordered her placement in pre-trial detention. The thirtysomething was obviously of sound mind during these exchanges. This is evidenced by her response to the judge’s question asking her if she knows the reasons for her arrest: "Yes, because I tried to kill my mother." And to add: "I was aware of what I was doing."
