Widow of Former Moroccan PM Robbed in Paris Suburb; $300,000 in Valuables Stolen

The judicial police of Paris are investigating a burglary that occurred on Tuesday in Fontenay-aux-Roses (Hauts-de-Seine). The victim, an 80-year-old woman, is none other than the widow of former Moroccan Prime Minister Abdellatif Filali. Objects worth an estimated 300,000 euros were taken.
Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, two men broke into the elderly woman’s home by scaling the walls and held her hostage for nearly an hour, without harming her physically. The octogenarian, who happens to be the widow of former Moroccan Prime Minister Abdellatif Filali, has no physical injuries, according to sources in the Le Parisien newspaper.
The two criminals ransacked the house, taking with them valuable items, including jewelry, luxury leather goods and other goods that were reportedly given by King Hassan II to the victim’s late husband. The value of the loot is estimated at around 300,000 euros.
The retiree alerted the police after the two burglars left. Officers from the Châtenay-Malabry police station quickly rushed to the scene. Forensic police technicians then joined them to try to collect evidence and clues. For now, the two individuals have not yet been apprehended.
To recall, Abdellatif Filali was Prime Minister of Morocco from 1994 to 1998, and held several high positions such as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Higher Education, and ambassador of the kingdom in several countries. After his retirement, he settled with his family in the Hauts-de-Seine until his death in 2009.
