Violent Attack in Villeurbanne Leaves Multiple Injured, Elderly Victim in Coma

Following an altercation with the manager of a service station in Villeurbanne, a young Moroccan in an irregular situation violently and randomly attacked passers-by in the street. Three of them were slightly injured, while another was left in a coma. The aggressor was arrested and placed in custody.
The events took place on Wednesday, November 16. A 25-year-old Moroccan man was turned away from the BP Tonkin service station in Villeurbanne, reports Le Progrès. The reason for the refusal is unknown. He leaves the establishment in a rage. The young man violently assaults random passers-by on his way back to his apartment on Avenue Condorcet. He thus struck and strangled several people on Boulevard du 11-novembre-1918.
"The victim would have been assaulted by hand by an individual, for no apparent reason, near a service station. The latter would also have committed violence and made death threats against several people who were simply passing by or had tried to intervene during the assaults," said the Lyon Prosecutor’s Office. Three passers-by got off with minor injuries. Admitted in absolute emergency to a hospital by the firefighters, another passer-by, a septuagenarian, is in a coma.
Shortly afterwards, the national police services managed to arrest the madman, who will then be placed in custody. The Lyon Prosecutor’s Office has opened a flagrante delicto investigation for attempted voluntary manslaughter and intentional violence. The Rhône Departmental Security is conducting the investigations.
