Vigil Held for Young Moroccan Migrant Who Died in French Prison

In Bayonne, France, about a hundred people wanted to show their solidarity with the young 19-year-old Moroccan migrant who committed suicide on February 26 in his cell.
This act of solidarity, which is much more like a tribute to the young man, took place on Saturday morning, in front of the Bayonne prison, the one in which the young Moroccan migrant took his own life. The demonstrators responded in large numbers to the call of the associations La Cimade and Etorki Nekin.
"We decided to pay our tribute, and we wanted to show our concern about what is happening," said Hélène Lacarre, from La Cimade.
The young Moroccan migrant’s first arrest dates back to November 2019. He had managed to escape from the Hendaye detention center, with four other migrants of different nationalities, before being caught.
Francebleu.fr reports that the administrative detention center in Hendaye, from which the young Moroccan had tried to escape, was also receiving a demonstration of support and solidarity at the same time.
