Van Seized Near Montpellier: Driver Caught with 9 Tons Over Legal Limit

While the summer holidays are still a little way off, many North Africans are taking advantage of the relative calm to return to their country of origin, but sometimes at the risk of their lives.
Thus, a man of unknown nationality, but most likely of Moroccan origin, was arrested on Friday morning for overloading by the motorway gendarmerie of Poussan, in the Montpellier region. While his van was only authorized to transport a maximum of 3.5 tons, the driver was checked with 12.5 tons, i.e. 9 tons too many!
In a message posted on its Facebook account, the gendarmerie reminds that an excessive load lengthens the braking distances and makes the vehicle very difficult to control.
The driver gets away with a very hefty fine of 1620 euros and his vehicle was of course immobilized until it returned to normal weight, the Hérault gendarmerie specifies.
