Undocumented Moroccan Student Faces Deportation, Sparking Support from French School

Undocumented, Walid, 22, a Moroccan student at the Blanqui high school in Saint-Ouen, is under the threat of imminent expulsion from France. While the Paris administrative court will rule on the case on Friday, November 15, the teaching staff and all the students are showing their support for the young Moroccan placed in the Vincennes (Val-de-Marne) detention center.
Everyone is mobilizing behind Walid, whose expulsion from France to Morocco seems imminent, reports Le Parisien. This young man, a student in a BTS Services informatiques aux organisations, was arrested in Paris on November 6, during a police check. Without papers, he was placed in a detention center in Vincennes (Val-de-Marne).
Since then, the teachers and students of the Blanqui high school have shown their support for the one who is considered "the best in his class".
On their agenda, the setting up of a kitty to help pay for the lawyer’s fees, the display of a banner of support on Tuesday in the establishment, then an operation, "dead school", this week.
According to details provided by a teacher at his school, "on Wednesday morning, he was checked for who knows what reason by the police, at the Gare Saint-Lazare (Paris 8th). He no longer has a residence permit, and did not have his student card on him. He was therefore placed in a detention center last Thursday."
Arrived in France in 2014, Walid had a student visa. However, he no longer renewed his residence permit which had expired.
