UFC 294: Abu Azaitar Falls to Sedriques Dumas in Middleweight Comeback Bout

The 37-year-old Moroccan MMA champion Abu Azaitar lost Saturday his middleweight fight against American Sedriques Dumas, which took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Abu Azaitar was making his return to the octagon, in the middleweight category, more than two years after his last appearance. He tried to extinguish Dumas from the first round, with a low kick and a combination of punches. His opponent falls, but resists him. He gets up and in turn sends Azaitar to the ground. The Moroccan champion gets up and becomes more offensive. He takes the advantage from the second round. Azaitar sends heavy counterattacks, manages a knockdown and follows up with ground strikes. Very combative, Dumas was able to get up before the end of the round.
At the start of the third round, the one nicknamed "Captain Morocco" becomes less offensive. He pulls his opponent’s hair. An unsportsmanlike gesture that prompts the referee to interrupt the fight for a moment. Dumas shakes Azaitar with a jab and follows up with punches. The Moroccan tries to impress by going on the offensive in the last seconds, but he receives a kick to the head. The American beats Azaitar by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Before the fight, Azaitar’s record was 1-1 in the UFC, just like his opponent Sedriques Dumas.
