Uber arrives in Casablanca and Marrakech
Seven years after leaving the Kingdom, the Uber company has officially announced its return to the Moroccan market. The application has been operational again since the morning of Thursday, November 27. For this relaunch phase, the service is exclusively available in two cities: Casablanca and Marrakech.
For this return, the company has radically changed its operating model. Uber Morocco will no longer use private individuals, but will rely solely on approved vehicles. The service will notably use the fleets belonging to car rental companies or tourist transport companies with the necessary authorizations for rental with a driver.
This new strategy marks a significant difference from the local competition. Unlike applications such as Careem or InDrive, Uber will not allow independent drivers to operate through its platform. The activity will be strictly reserved for professional and regulated structures.
The application therefore seems to be waiting for an authorization from the Moroccan authorities for VTC services before returning to its original model.
