Tomato Prices Surge in France as Moroccan and Spanish Imports Plummet

In France, tomato prices are starting to skyrocket due in particular to the lack of supply from Morocco and Spain.
In addition to the surge in energy prices, the international and climatic situation, the surge in tomato prices is also explained by the lack of imported tomato supply from Morocco and Spain, says the Directorate of Markets, Studies and Foresight of the Network of Market News (RNM) integrated into FranceAgriMer, specifying that the volumes arriving in France are decreasing sharply. As a result, there is an increase in prices and retail prices.
To recall, the Moroccan authorities imposed export quotas to the EU at the end of February 2023. "This decision comes in particular after the rise in input prices, repeated droughts, unusual cold weather and violent winds that have combined to hinder Moroccan production," explains the RNM to the newspaper La Montagne.
