TikTok Star’s Tragic End Sparks Anti-Bullying March: ’Mehdi Saucisson’ Remembered
A white march will be organized this Sunday in Bully-les-Mines (Pas-de-Calais), in tribute to Mehdi Bassit, alias Mehdlevrai, the 32-year-old TikToker who took his own life last weekend.
"To all those who appreciated Mehdi, his friends, his community, all those who wish to pay him a final tribute, you are welcome," his sister said in a message posted on Facebook. "By walking together, we will break the silence: STOP harassment so that no one else ever suffers in the shadows," she added.
The white march will start at 11 a.m., at the Victor-Hugo square in Bully-les-Mines, where the young man had just moved in. Participants are asked to dress in red and blue to honor Mehdi’s memory, as he was a fan of Olympique Lyonnais. "Come in large numbers to honor Mehdi’s memory, with respect, love and unity. Let’s walk together to never forget him," reads the poster for the white march.
Mehdi Bassit took his own life during the night of Friday, July 18 to Saturday, July 19. The content creator and father of two children had more than two million followers on TikTok. He had become famous thanks to his famous charcuterie board, which earned him the nickname "Mehdi Saucisson".
"Lately, there were only tears, sadness, and anger. It was too much. Too much hatred, too much harassment, too many slanders, too much injustice," Juliette, his friend and content creator, denounced in a video, specifying that Mehdi "chose to go up there."
