Thousands of Moroccan Officials Face Dismissal Over Undeclared Assets

In total, 89,070 declarations have been filed in the various financial jurisdictions of the Kingdom. This means that thousands of people have not yet taken the necessary steps.

During the presentation of his sectoral budget to Parliament, the President of the Court of Auditors, Driss Jettou, took stock of the declaration of assets. Until the end of October, only 89,079 declarations had been filed in the various financial jurisdictions of the Kingdom. Also, the financial jurisdictions are mobilizing to warn the thousands of senior officials and elected officials who have not yet taken the necessary steps, before implementing the dismissal, as provided for by the texts and laws in force.

The Court of Auditors and the various government departments concerned are in full consultation to review the provisions of the law on asset declarations. Thus, the number of officials and elected officials subject to the procedure will be reduced, for more efficiency in the control procedure.

The Court also plans to provide more appropriate supervision of the finances of political parties. Thus, the new text will essentially focus on controlling expenses related to catering and transportation, which were previously unjustified, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.

As for the budget of the financial jurisdictions of the Kingdom in 2021, the salaries and allowances of civil servants amount to 311 million dirhams. However, the budget allocated to equipment and miscellaneous expenses is 50 million dirhams. The budget set for the Supreme Court of Accounts for 2021 amounts to 39 million dirhams in performance credits, 18 million dirhams for the equipment of the headquarters of the financial courts with computer, technical and office equipment, and 11 million dirhams for the regional courts.

The Court is about to publish a preliminary report on the follow-up of the recommendations contained in its reports. A consultation will take place between the departments concerned, in order to better respect the recommendations included in the reports.
