Teen Killed in New Year’s Eve Hit-and-Run in Strasbourg

Rayan, a 15-year-old teenager, was fatally hit by a car on New Year’s Eve in Strasbourg, as he was returning from a family party. The Grand Mosque of the city expressed its "immense sadness" and "deep sorrow" following this tragedy.
Seriously injured, Rayan died during his transfer to the hospital. The hit-and-run driver, a 19-year-old man who fled, turned himself in to the police on Wednesday, January 1, reports France Bleu, indicating that the suspect "was known to the justice system for a police custody but without a conviction during the riots following the death of the young Nahel." The competent prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for "involuntary manslaughter with hit-and-run."
The Grand Mosque of Strasbourg did not remain insensitive to Rayan’s brutal death. In a statement, it expressed, in its name and that of the Muslim community of Strasbourg, its "immense sadness" and "deep sorrow" in the face of this tragedy. "We extend our sincerest condolences to Rayan’s family and loved ones. In these moments of unbearable pain, we implore Allah, the Almighty, to grant Rayan His infinite mercy and to make him enter His vast paradise. We also pray that his family find the necessary strength and patience to face this ordeal."
It will add: "Justice must be served, for Rayan, for his family and for our society. This tragedy deeply affects us. It reminds us of the fragility of life and the importance of solidarity in adversity. May each of us keep this tragic loss in mind and strive to cultivate kindness and responsibility in our actions."
