Taxi Driver’s 600-Mile Journey Saves Kidney Donation After Airport Protest

A nun from Lorient missed her flight to Toulouse on Wednesday due to the taxi drivers’ protest against the unfair competition from VTC, causing major disruptions around Nantes airport. One of the striking taxi drivers finally agreed to take her there.
The nun was unable to take her flight to Toulouse where she was expected to donate a kidney to her brother. To make up for this prejudice she suffered due to their strike, Mounir Jouad, a Nantes taxi driver, decided to take her to Toulouse, with the contribution of all his striking colleagues who pooled their money to pay for the trip, reports France Bleu.
"I took the road to Toulouse without thinking because her brother was scheduled for surgery and he was waiting for his sister to donate her kidney," said Jouad, 43, who made the round trip Nantes-Toulouse overnight. "The sister was super happy. She told me it was a miracle..." said the Nantes taxi driver.
And he added: "If we did that, it’s to show the good image of Nantes taxis. Even if I don’t make my expenses, it doesn’t matter. We can make gestures from time to time, we are human. Our first mission is to serve people and then of course there is the financial aspect."
"The mobilization ends on a beautiful note. This type of movement is not very popular, but unfortunately, today we have to go through this to get things and make ourselves heard," also pointed out Jérôme Bernouis, the president of the Professional Chamber of Taxi Craftsmen in Loire-Atlantique.
