Tariq Ramadan Rape Case Expands: Two New Potential Victims Identified

Events that occurred in Paris in 2015 and 2016 are reviving the serial rape case for which Swiss Islamist Tariq Ramadan has been indicted. To this end, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office issued a "supplementary indictment" on September 10, extending the jurisdiction of the investigating judge in charge of the "Ramadan" case "to two new potential victims."

The new development in this rape case concerns testimonies collected by the Criminal Brigade police from two women identified in documents found on the Muslim intellectual’s computers, according to a source close to the case.

According to the same media, these new victims believe they did not file a complaint at the time because they had been drawn into a "brutal" sexual relationship with the Islamist in November-December 2015 for one, and in March 2016 for the other. Both mentioned a "hold" over them, the same source notes.

The two victims, while describing the scene, mention a "brutal" act, a "physical rape," which, according to them, relates to a "moral rape." They did not fail to point out that the accused "has such a hold on you that you do everything he asks."

Even after spending nearly ten months in prison in pre-trial detention, Tariq Ramadan, 57, continues to deny. He first rejected any sexual relationship with these women before mentioning "consensual relationships."

To this end, he launched a media counteroffensive in mid-September, with the publication of a book, "Duty of Truth," which denounces a "trap" and denies any "hold" over his sexual partners.

Facing an investigation for the rape of two women in France in 2009 and 2012, the Swiss intellectual is also accused by two other women of "rape" in March 2018 and July 2019, facts for which the investigations are ongoing.
