Tariq Ramadan Faces €4,000 Fine for Revealing Rape Accuser’s Identity

Tariq Ramadan could pay a fine of 4,000 euros for having disclosed the identity of one of the women who accused him of rape.
In his book "Duty of Truth", Tariq Ramadan would have cited the real name of the one known in the media as "Christelle" and who accuses Tariq Ramadan of having raped her in a hotel room in Lyon in 2009, 84 times. The Islamist scholar is also accused of having pronounced the real name of "Christelle" twice on BFMTV during an interview with Jean-Jacques Bourdin.
The French justice accuses the man of having disseminated information on the identity of a victim of sexual assault without having received her written consent. For the prosecutor, it is obvious that the accused acted with the intention of harming. This is why he requested in his requisitions 4,000 euros in fines as well as 12,000 euros against his publisher, "Les Presses du Châtelet".
Tariq Ramadan explained before the Court that "Christelle" had exposed herself in the press, even before he spoke about her in his book and during an interview on BFMTV. "The name appeared millions of times, before I wrote it 84 times," he said. For her part, "Christelle" claimed to have fought with all her might to prevent the release of the book without success.
She added that since her name was disclosed, she has become the target of the Islamist’s supporters. "I no longer go out, my mailbox is broken, I no longer have an intercom, they broke it by ringing it at all hours," she said, visibly disconcerted by the situation. She also spoke of the messages "hang yourself, kill yourself" that she was constantly receiving.
