The facade of the Agen mosque was tagged on Sunday, July 26, 2020. The author of the tags has not yet been identified.
A swastika is among the tags drawn on the walls of the Agen mosque. A prefectural source told AFP that a "middle finger" is also present on the facade of this place of worship.
"I strongly condemn the unacceptable damage that has targeted the Agen mosque. These odious acts are contrary to the values of the Republic. Support to the Muslims of Agen," Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter.
The Prefect of Lot-et-Garonne also firmly condemned "the degradation and odious acts committed on the Agen mosque." For her, they are in total contradiction with the values of the Republic and the freedom of worship.
