Suspect Arrested and Jailed for Mosque Vandalism in Southern France

The alleged perpetrator of the vandalism at the mosque in Saint-Juéry, near Albi (Tarn), has been arrested, placed in police custody at the Albi police station, brought before a judge and then placed in pre-trial detention. He is being prosecuted for intentional damage to the property of others, and his trial will open on January 31.
It is thanks in particular to the CCTV images of the Saint-Juéry mosque that the Albi police were able to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator of the vandalism committed in December 2022 on the place of worship. He is a 26-year-old man, known to the justice system. He had been prosecuted in 2018, but the case was dismissed due to his criminal irresponsibility, reports La Dépêche.

After being placed in police custody at the Albi police station and brought before the public prosecutor on January 4, he is being prosecuted for intentional damage to the property of others, committed on the basis of the presumed race or religion of the victims. His trial will open on January 31. The defendant faces up to 4 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros.
