Survey: 85% of Moroccan Families Report Declining Living Standards

85% of Moroccan families reported a significant deterioration in their standard of living. This is revealed by an HCP survey on household precariousness.

In its information note, the HCP reports that 85.3% of Moroccan families reported a deterioration in their standard of living over the past 12 months. 10.9% of families reported some stability, while 8.3% reported an improvement. 50.7% of families expect a deterioration in their standard of living over the next 12 months, 37.4% stability and 11.9% an improvement. Similarly, 85.8% of families expect an increase in unemployment in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 4.4% expecting an increase in unemployment over the next 12 months.

Regarding the household confidence index, it recorded a deterioration compared to the previous quarter and the same quarter of the previous year, where it was respectively -0.78 points and -66.9 points to reach a negative level of -81.5 points, the lowest since the launch of the study in 2008. According to the HCP, the confidence index reached a negative level of -8.38 points, compared to -43.0 points in the previous quarter and -21.5 points in the same quarter of the previous year.
