Study Reveals Marrakech and Agadir’s Hotel Offerings Compared to Global Competitors

The Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) conducted a study on Moroccan tourism, in particular the Moroccan offer through web bookings of a dozen destinations including Agadir and Marrakech.
The study shows that the web hotel offer in Marrakech remains focused on the mid-to-high end at 82%, a slightly higher structure than its actual capacity (73% with, respectively, 43% in 5 stars and 33% in 4 stars), reports L’Économiste. Same configuration in Istanbul. But Agadir prioritizes the 3 stars (19%). It should be noted that there is a difference between the offer of the capital of Souss and its capacity (25% in 5 stars, 33% in 4 stars and 27% for the 3 stars) in favor of the 5 stars.
With an average distance of 2.3 km, Marrakech’s offer shows a more balanced dispersion around the center. In the eyes of visitors, this is one of the assets of Marrakech and Agadir. This is lacking in Cairo. The city is more dispersed with an average distance to the center of 8.7 km against respectively 624 m and 595 m for Seville and Cordoba, it is indicated.
While prices are low in Tunis and Cairo, they are high in Agadir. The average price of accommodation in all destinations is set at 6,482 DH (6 nights for two adults). This price is lower in Tunis and Cairo. Marrakech practices 6,499 DH while Agadir sets its price at 6,865 DH.
According to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), the price differences would be explained by the fact that the length of stay coincides with the month of August, high season for certain Mediterranean regions.
The study also reveals that unclassified offers are better appreciated in Marrakech and Agadir compared to those of classified establishments.
