Strasbourg Families to Host Isolated Students for Ramadan Meals

After the success of the first edition, Fayçal Marzouq, a member of the Communauté solidaire Alsace, has decided to launch, for the second consecutive year, the "1 family 1 student" operation which consists of hosting a (or more) isolated student by families for the meal to break the fast, the "Iftar", during the month of Ramadan. In France, the holy month begins on Saturday, April 2.
Fayçal Marzouq is looking for families who can host an isolated student throughout the month of Ramadan as part of the "1 family 1 student" operation. He invites families who wish to participate in this operation to contact him via his Facebook page. "1 Family 1 Student: More than an action, a human concept. During Ramadan, it is customary to gather for the meal time. Some students sometimes do not have the chance to have their loved ones close by, because they are studying elsewhere. Following the great success of the first edition, we are renewing the action. Thus, we are prospecting for families to welcome a socially distressed student. The goal is to be part of this family during a Ramadan meal (Iftar). [...] The action is open to everyone, regardless of your religion or beliefs," Fayçal launched.
Where did this idea come from? "I met students, more than a year ago, who were far from their families, and sometimes in great precariousness. We could not leave them to fend for themselves, especially during the month of Ramadan, which is synonymous with sharing and hospitality," explains the Strasbourg resident to France info. In addition to hosting a student in need during the iftar meal, Fayçal Marzouq also organizes the preparation of meal baskets (homemade meals) that are distributed to students who could not, did not want to travel. "We thus distributed 2,500 baskets during Ramadan 2021 on the Esplanade campus, at the Crous de la Robertsau or near the Strasbourg train station," he says.
Through the first edition of the "1 family 1 student" operation, Fayçal Marzouq brought joy to the beneficiaries. "It was my first Ramadan away from my family, which is in Morocco. I was in the middle of exams and I felt very lonely. There was a lot of empathy and kindness that evening from the family who welcomed me. I really felt like I was with my own. And what did we eat well!" jokes Idriss Belmejdouib.
