Stranded French Tourists Praise Moroccan Hospitality Amid Travel Restrictions

Confined in Aït Bihi, a small village above Taghazout, the Toulousaine Sophie praises the hospitality of the Moroccans. She and her daughter, Juliana, are waiting for "more reasonable solutions" for their repatriation to France.

"Originally from the Toulouse region, we arrived in Agadir on Thursday, March 12 for 8 days. The next day, Morocco closed its borders, our return flight was canceled. Like many others, we found ourselves stranded here," Sophie recounts by email.

According to her, the French consulate has managed to set up repatriation flights to Paris that are too expensive for her and her daughter. Faced with the situation, they have decided to remain confined in Aït Bihi, a small village above Taghazout, awaiting more reasonable solutions.

"Here, we feel safe: the confinement is respected, the wearing of masks is mandatory even in the car, all the safety measures to respect the barrier gestures are taken. The people of the village are very welcoming and share the ftour with us every evening...," testifies the Toulousaine.

And she continues: "Here, no big speeches. Deconfinement is scheduled for May 20 (finally June 10 ed.)... The population will be quickly informed of the decision to extend or implement deconfinement. No TV debate, union for or against... We will just respect the measures taken by Morocco."

"We are in constant contact with our family who we miss terribly; everyone is reassured to know that we are safe. My daughter is in contact with her school where everything is in place so that she can continue her lessons. Thank you Morocco, wonderful host country!" rejoices the French woman.
