Stranded French and Spanish Tourists Await Repatriation from Morocco Amid Flight Suspensions

Thousands of Spaniards and French have remained stranded in Morocco after the suspension of flights with the two countries, decided by the Moroccan authorities. Their repatriation is taking place, not without difficulties.
Special planes and ferries are chartered by France and Spain to repatriate their nationals stranded in Morocco. Sherazade, a nurse from Nice, is waiting to be repatriated to France. She landed in Casablanca on March 26 to attend the funeral of a relative, before finding herself stuck in the kingdom.
According to her, the repatriation operation is poorly coordinated. "We have completely contradictory information," she says, specifying that "for the consulate, repatriation flights are planned, while Air France has not prepared any flight." And she adds: "At the consulate, we are asked to register on lists and we are called one by one, in particular for the ferry that is to leave on April 10."
More than 3,000 Spaniards or residents in Spain and nearly 4,000 French have been stranded in Morocco, after the suspension of flights decided to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
