Storm Ciara Causes Flight Cancellations Across Northern Europe

Flights have been canceled in Brussels, Amsterdam and London. The cause is Storm Ciara which is hitting northern Europe with winds reaching 140 km/h.

About sixty flights departing or arriving at Brussels Airport were canceled on Sunday, February 9, 2020, due to air traffic disruption. These cancellations concern Lufthansa flights to and from Munich and Frankfurt (Germany), Eurowings (Stuttgart, Germany), KLM (Amsterdam), British Airways (London), as well as 38 Brussels Airlines flights to and from the United Kingdom, reports Air-journal. The same source indicates that other flights are about to be canceled on Monday, February 10, 2020.

In total, 120 flights, mainly from KLM, British Airways, EasyJet and Lufthansa airlines, were canceled on Sunday at Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport. Like Brussels, other flights at Amsterdam-Schiphol could be canceled on Monday.

Conversely, the main airports in the United Kingdom, including those in London, are announcing delays in their flight schedules. "Like all airlines operating to and from the United Kingdom, we expect to be affected by adverse weather conditions in parts of the United Kingdom on Sunday, February 9. We are sorry for the potential disruption to your travel plans and are doing everything we can to minimize the effect of the bad weather on our flights," reads the British Airways website. Faced with this situation, the airline offers its customers to modify their bookings free of charge.
