Spanish Party Calls for Review of Morocco Relations Amid Pegasus Spyware Allegations

The president of the Podemos parliamentary group in Congress, Jaume Asens, proposed on Thursday "to review the agreement with Morocco" if it is established that it is the kingdom that hacked Pedro Sanchez’s phone using the Israeli spyware Pegasus.
Asens wondered if the data extracted from Sanchez’s phone "has anything to do with the change in position on the Sahara", believing that this data "could be used to blackmail the government". For the Podemos leader, Israel "could be behind this espionage", especially since the Pegasus software is developed by the Israeli private company NSO Group, which obtains authorization from the government of the country before selling it to its clients.
At the national level, Asens reiterated Podemos’ position, calling for measures to locate political responsibilities and to prevent such espionage from happening again. The MP stressed that his party does not appreciate the way the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles (PSOE), is handling this file, but cannot "demand her resignation" because Podemos "is part of the government". "Before saying who should resign, we need to know what happened," he added.
