Spanish Interior Minister Reaffirms Morocco as ’Strategic Partner’ Amid Spying Allegations

The Spanish Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, asked the press on Monday to avoid making "inappropriate" speculations about the spying of Pedro Sanchez’s phones and the migration crisis of May 2021 in Ceuta, stating that Morocco is a "strategic" and loyal partner of Spain.
Grande-Marlaska described as "inappropriate" the speculations contained in the article published on Monday by El País, according to which the Spanish intelligence services would have transmitted to the government a report to inform it that the entry of thousands of migrants in May of last year was part of Morocco’s "pressure" strategy on Spain to change its position on the Sahara.
The Interior Minister insisted that relations with Morocco are marked by "loyalty, reliability and fraternity". Relations with Morocco will continue to "deepen", as affirmed by the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, and King Mohammed VI, during their meeting in Rabat on April 7, recalls Grande-Marlaska.
Regarding the spying of the phones of Pedro Sanchez and some ministers using Pegasus, Grande-Marlaska asked not to link Morocco to this affair, which is already being investigated by the justice system. Morocco is a "strategic" and "loyal" partner of Spain with which it maintains and will continue to maintain relations "based on mutual trust", he said.
