Spain Urges Swift EU-Morocco Fishing Deal Ratification, Citing Economic Concerns

The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Miguel Arias Cañete, participating in the Agriculture Conference being held in Meknes, expressed Spain’s "concern" about the entry into force of the new fisheries agreement between the European Union and Morocco, which is still not effective.
Arias Cañete expressed the "interest" of the Spanish Executive to see the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement come into force "as soon as possible" to allow Spanish boats to carry out their fishing activities. "I believe the process is very advanced and I hope for a quick ratification," said the Spanish minister.
The EU-Morocco agreement has already been approved by the two Moroccan parliamentary chambers and published in the Official Journal. But there is one last step for it to enter into force: the ratification of the agreement by the signature of King Mohammed VI.
In total, 126 European and mostly Spanish vessels are waiting for this ratification to be able to fish again in Moroccan waters, after about two years of forced unemployment due to the termination of this agreement in December 2021.
