Spain Seeks to Mend Diplomatic Ties with Morocco Amid Tensions

In an effort to ease the diplomatic situation between Madrid and Rabat, the Spanish authorities see an outstretched hand.
This gesture could be "the visit of a minister to Rabat or a call from the King to Mohamed VI," we learn from El Pais, which states that this would be "a step towards reconciliation".
Indeed, the newspaper points out, the priority of the Spanish government is to restore "normality as soon as possible". To do this, the lines must be moved and this posture of rivalry with its neighbor must be abandoned.
According to El Pais, Morocco’s silence after the hasty departure of the Polisario separatist leader on board an Algerian government plane is worrying Spain, which "is studying the realization of a gesture that will help the Moroccan authorities to turn the page".
By informing Morocco of Brahim Ghali’s departure, Spain "has implicitly acknowledged that it was a mistake not to have warned the neighboring country when he was hospitalized in Logroño on April 18," notes El Pais.
A dangerous situation according to the same source, which confirms that bilateral relations have further darkened by doubts and mistrust, leading Morocco to be deaf to Spain’s calls to resolve the dispute.
El Pais then wonders if the possible outstretched hand would be sufficient, "if we take into account the statement published by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs last Monday".
