Spain Fears Morocco’s Nuclear Ambitions as Israel Ties Strengthen

Could Morocco one day have a nuclear weapon? This is the concern of Spain in view of the resumption of relations between the Hebrew state and the Kingdom.
The normalization of relations with Israel gives Morocco the possibility of having access to the arsenal of the Hebrew state, one of the most advanced in the world. Indeed, from a geopolitical point of view, Morocco is a country bordering Spain with a strong ambition to recover three territories under Spanish administration: Ceuta, Melilla and Western Sahara, notes diario16.com. The recent statements by the Moroccan Prime Minister, Saadeddine El Othmani, in which he once again claims the sovereignty of the two autonomous cities, as well as the Western Sahara as territories belonging to Morocco, are considered a challenge for the Spanish government.
For the Spanish government, the danger is not only focused on the claims of Spanish territories such as the two autonomous cities. But for some time now, Morocco has begun to extend its territorial waters towards the Canary Islands.
This new alliance with Israel will certainly strengthen Rabat’s armament capacity. And Spain fears finding itself in a clear inferiority vis-à-vis Morocco.
