Spain Eyes Qatari Gas Deal Amid Tensions with Algeria

The upcoming visit to Spain of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa, could be an opportunity for the Spanish authorities to negotiate the replacement of Algerian gas with Qatari gas.
Relations between Spain and Algeria have been tense since Pedro Sanchez decided to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara. The Algerian authorities have already threatened to raise the prices of gas sales to Spain, which, for its part, has reduced its dependence on Algeria.

In this context, gas could well be at the heart of the exchanges during the upcoming visit of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa, to Spain. Spanish media sources have announced that the two countries could study the possibility of replacing Algerian gas with Qatari gas. According to the specialized site "Abyssi Economy", Qatar would have the solution to the crisis between Algeria and Spain in its hands.

The visit of the Emir of Qatar to Spain could therefore lead to important energy agreements, believes the same source, recalling that Algeria has already threatened to cut gas to Spain if it supplied Morocco under its new agreement with the kingdom.
